Faculty Uniqnames & Accounts

UM-Ann Arbor

New faculty often need uniqnames and UMIDs before they have completed the hiring process. Their department can get uniqnames and UMIDs for them by sponsoring them (using the MCommunity Sponsor System). There are two ways to do this:

The standard computing services (with the exception of printing) are set up for the sponsored person as part of the sponsorship process.

Once a uniqname has been created, departmental staff can submit a Print Account Provisioning request if the incoming faculty member needs to print in Campus Computing Sites and University libraries.

The incoming faculty member's affiliation in their MCommunity Directory profile will be listed as "Sponsored Affiliate." The faculty affiliation will not be added until the person's hire date.

On the faculty member's hire date, his or her directory entry will be automatically changed from listing a sponsorship affiliation to listing a faculty affiliation. Should the faculty member not complete the hiring process, the sponsorship will expire after six months unless it is extended.

UM-Dearborn

Human Resources staff on the Dearborn campus can get a uniqname, MComunity Directory profile, and computing services for incoming faculty using the MCommunity Sponsor System. The affiliation listed in the new faculty member's directory profile will be "Sponsored Affiliate" initially. Once the hiring process is complete, the new faculty member's directory profile will list their faculty affiliation.

Dearborn faculty get an MCommunity Directory Profile when they have both a uniqname and a U-M affiliation (whether the affiliation is that of a sponsored affiliate or a faculty member). MCommunity receives nightly data updates from the Dearborn campus.

When a Dearborn faculty member has a uniqname and an MCommunity Directory profile, a U-M account, which includes access to U-M Google, is automatically created for them.

Dearborn faculty can also fill out a form to request a uniqname at the Dearborn ITS Accounts Office.

UM-Flint

Human Resources staff on the Flint campus can get uniqnames and MCommunity Directory profiles for incoming faculty using the MCommunity Sponsor System. Otherwise, Flint faculty are issued uniqnames by UM-Flint Information Technology Services (ITS).

Flint faculty get an MCommunity Directory profile when they have both a uniqname and a U-M affiliation (whether the affiliation is that of a sponsored affiliate or a faculty member). MCommunity receives weekly data updates from the Flint campus.

When a Flint faculty member has a uniqname and an MCommunity Directory profile, a U-M account, which includes access to U-M Google, is automatically created for them. Flint faculty use an email and calendar service provided by Flint Information Technology Services instead of U-M Google Mail and Calendar.
