Computing Services for Retirees

It has been a pleasure to provide you with computing services during your time at the University of Michigan. Wherever you go, go blue!

Some of your U-M computing services will end

As a University of Michigan retiree, you will no longer be able to use some computing services. Before your affiliation with U-M ends, review your files and folders in storage services such as U-M Google Drive, U-M Microsoft 365, and U-M Dropbox and reassign ownership of files/folders containing university data (sensitive and non-sensitive) to another individual at the university.

Refer below for a summary of the U-M computing services you keep and lose as a retiree, as well as how to save or transfer any files you wish to keep for the computing services that will end.

Returning to U-M as a Temporary Employee

If you return to the university as a temporary employee, your department may provide you with computing services in addition to your U-M Google account. These services might be operated within the department itself, or they may request additional computing services for you from ITS.

The department and the ITS Service Center need to work together to ensure your computing services are not disrupted. If you have any questions about your specific situation, please contact the ITS Service Center.

Note: The exact timing of when you lose access to these services depends on when your U-M affiliation changes from “employee” to “retiree.” The timing of this change is different for each unit. For specific information on when your affiliation will change, contact your ITS Unit Liaison. ITS strongly encourages you to take the steps below before your last day of employment to ensure that you have enough time to export your data before you lose access. If you need assistance, please contact the ITS Service Center.
